All about baby...

I'm in the blogging spirit so I thought why not add another post about what everyone wants to hear about next... so here are a few updates before I forget (which is all too likely these days). Kind of like the home building process, it has been crazy, fun and exciting to watch my tummy grow from flat (well, kind of) to what it is today. I'm just about 24 weeks (on Friday) so the bump has definitely emerged and strangers and random people are making comments. Must look real!

Here is a little recap of some of the milestones we've hit so far...
First Ultrasound: We had our first real ultrasound at 19 weeks...going into the appointment we had decided that we were going to wait to find out the gender. As we were sitting in the waiting room, Brian leans over and says to me "I kind of want to know now..." I gave him a quick smack on the chest and said "you can't do that to me NOW!" It was right after that that my name was called and back to the room we went. We told the tech that we were still undecided about finding out the gender and she said she would save that for last to give us a bit more time. As she was showing us our first glimpse at our precious babe all rolled up into a little ball we were even more anxious to know the gender (or at least I was). After about 30 minutes of seeing the feet, arms, legs, head and face she was down to the rump...I asked her if she could tell...by the look on her face and the number of tries she had to get to get any kind of picture on the screen I could tell she wasn't sure. She said she thought she knew but wasn't 100% so we decided to go with the original plan so being surprised at the end it is!  Both Brian and I are good with that decision and are really anxious for the baby's arrival...it is sure to be a grand entrance! After this visit Brian is 99.5% sure it is a girl...and he's starting to convince me of that too.

First kicks: Right at 19 weeks I started feeling our little babe fluttering away. It was the Thursday before we were supposed to close on the house (October 27th to be exact), Brian was in San Diego for work and I was home alone. At this point I was obsessed (I have gone through my obsessive phases with certain things from time to time) with figuring out what name we were going to give this child. I was bound and determined to see a name in one of the 5 baby name books I have and just know that was it and Brian would love it too. That still hasn't happened...but I was looking through a baby name book while lying in bed...it was quiet as I was relaxing before going to bed and all of the sudden out of nowhere I felt this slight twitch in my tummy...and then I felt it again and again. I had felt similar movements before but much less pronounced and not as obvious so this was the first real time I was able to identify it. Now almost 5 weeks later, I feel like a punching bag some days! :) The baby is mostly moving in the morning after a good breakfast and normally at night when I lay down to go to bed.

First kicks felt by Brian: On our first night sleeping in our new house, November 17th, the little babe was just as excited as Brian and I were...or maybe it was just excited that I had finally stopped moving for the day! Brian got to feel the babe kick for the first time that night as we were laying down for the night. It was a really sweet surprise!

Cravings: So besides sugar, chocolate and anything sweet (which isn't much different than before I was pregnant) my cravings have consisted of Chinese food and donuts/muffins...not together though. Both of these foods have always been high on my likes list but never, have I ever wanted Chinese food as often as I do now. I have always liked a good donut or muffin on occasion but again, these are just the most delicious foods for me now. According to the old wives tale...sugar cravings = girl. Salty cravings = boy. Who knows...one is sweet and the other salty.

My next appointment is December 13th and it's time for the dreaded glucose test. I have heard more stories about how bad that stuff tastes that I'm really not looking forward to it. Not to mention the thought of potentially having to cut down on my sugar intake makes me want to eat an entire chocolate cake immediately! Mamma and baby like our sugar! Kind of like dad...and g-pa Wayne...and g-pa Tom and g-ma Julie and g-ma Doris...must run in the family.

Ailments: So far I have been blessed with a pretty easy pregnancy. Things seem to be going very smoothly and besides a few quirky side effects I feel pretty dang good! Buuuuut...like any great pregnancy there are always some fun side effects...so here's my list of odd things I swear never happened before I was pregnant!
  1. Hiccup/burps - this happens to me at least 10 times per day...and at all times...not just before or after eating or drinking. It conveniently happens to me when I am in a meeting at work and trying to sound professional. Cute.
  2. Low back pain - this was an intense side effect for about 3 weeks there at the beginning of my 2nd tri...crossing my fingers it stays away for good.
  3. Sore feet - the bottoms of my feet hurt now. Someone once told me when they were pregnant their feet felt like they were bruised on the bottom...now I understand what that feels like. Luckily I sit most of the day at work so I'm not dealing with it that frequently but after a day of shopping with Doris or moving stuff around our new house (all light things, promise), I hurt.
  4. Crazy thick hair - my hair is like the thickest it's ever been! I'll keep this side effect after pregnancy, please! :)
  5. Heightened sense of humor - Brian loves that I am now laughing...and laughing hard at all of his jokes. Even tonight I read an email forward which admittedly wasn't that funny and I couldn't control the laughter - seriously in tears. I guess this is better than the alternative! :)
Brian and I are starting to get the baby's room lined up and trying to decide on furniture which has become my latest obsession. Should have that ordered in the next few weeks so it can start to feel like a baby is actually going to live here with us. Each day we are getting closer to meeting our little one and can't wait to see if it's a he or a she!

Here are a few pictures of my growing belly...

After this last picture I fired my photographer and resorted to take one of my own...
Turns out it was the iPhone camera, not the photographer...sorry about the pixely photos. Next time I'll upgrade his equipment. :)

Hope you enjoyed hearing all about baby Day Day (won't it be nice when this poor child has a name and my 2 stooges of brothers can stop calling it Day Day?!)!

Finito!

The blog post you have all been waiting for...the finished product! I don't have a ton of pictures taken yet as we are still getting settled but will update soon!

It is amazing that in 6 months we went from this...

To THIS!

In those same 6 months, I went from this:
To THIS:

A lot can change in such a short period of time...it has been an absolutely fantastic year for Brian and I and we couldn't be more grateful. THANK YOU to everyone that has listened to us rant and rave about this house (our baby for the past 6 mo's), offered support and help throughout the past few months. We are truly so lucky and blessed! We can't wait to see what 2012 brings, including welcoming our first little babe. More updates to come on progress on the nursery...right now it's pretty empty!

Last weekend at the townhouse

Well, we are finishing up the last weekend at the townhouse and it's feeling pretty surreal that we are actually moving into the place we have "built" over the last several months. This past week we had a couple meetings and walk throughs with our builder and it seems that things have been progressively been getting cleaner and the to-do list gets shorter each time. Unfortunately during these meetings/walk thru's I didn't take any photos but you can trust me on this one. So far this week we were at the house Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Sunday which is more than we have been in the last month probably. Each time we went through with a critical eye marking any areas that needed paint touch ups, calking or just anything else that wasn't quite right. Tomorrow is the final, final, final clean and we are walking thru with Bill at noon tomorrow. Then...a mere 24 hours later we will be walking out of Banker's Trust with keys in hand and little $$ in our pocketbook! ;-) I'm sure we will have the biggest, cheesiest grins on our face though! It is going to be awesome to finally be able to walk into this place and call it OURS for real! We will still have contractors coming in and out I'm sure for some small stuff that isn't done by Tuesday - such as the window coverings that need to be put on and we are still waiting on some shelving for 2 closets in the basement. So, that's it. I'll be sure to let you know how the move goes...we have already started packing up the townhouse so we are ready to go the second we get those keys. I can tell you that we won't be wasting one minute as our plan is to pack up the cars tomorrow night and head over to the house after closing to unload the first batch...I know, I know...I will NOT be lifting a finger, promise. So maybe I should be rephrase that...BRIAN will be loading up the cars tomorrow night and unloading Tuesday after the closing appointment. I'll just be there to soak it all in and direct - you know I'm good at that! The weather is projected to be clear skies, sunny and a cozy 46 on Thursday when the movers actually come to take the big stuff and for our first night in the house. Can you say let's get that fireplace turned on?!

Thanks for reading along with us as we have gone through the building process...my plan is to keep periodic house related updates and I'm sure there will be some baby updates too. At 21 weeks Baby Day Day is doing just kicking away, mainly when I'm laying down or finally get some couch time. My belly has definitely popped out and I'm having more and more strangers and co-workers that I see in the hall from time to time ask my due date...safe to say I am out of the "I just ate a huge burrito" looking phase as the tummy rounded out. Here's a picture from the wedding I went to last night with my other "prego" friends in order of due date...

So close...

We are getting SO close and it is starting to set in that this really is our home and we really will be moving in soon! After a gorgeous weather weekend we can only hope for 2 more just like it! We got loads of stuff finished and moved out of our garage this weekend (including our 300+lb Sony TV!!!) so we are definitely getting prepped to move. We have things pretty well situated with regard to the move and feel like we have a good, organized plan in place for the week of the move. We are on a tight timeline as we close on Tuesday, November 15th and have to be completely out of our townhouse, cleaned up, etc. by end of day Sunday the 20th...we will have 6 days that unfortunately we have to work for half of those. We are looking at it as similar situation we had moving out of Altoona, we only had a few days and worked our butts off every night to make it happen. Luckily this time we won't have a 20+ minute drive between trips and we'll have a second muscle man (Benny) helping so hopefully we can get alot accomplished. Anyways...on to what has changed the the new house-a-roo! Since Tuesday the wood floors have been completely laid, carpet is laid throughout and most of the appliances have been delivered! Here's a looksy:

Entry wood and carpet!

The KITCHEN! Can't see the wood floors quite yet but check out that fridge and the sparkle of the backsplash!
Carpet meet your friend, tile.

Basement living space - the stone on this fireplace was put on this week.

Can't really tell but this is our laundry room - complete with a new washer/dryer!

And the stove...still needs the vent hood but looks pretty snazzy so far!
I mentioned on Tuesday that the sod has also been laid so here's another photo from the outside! And the deck is nearing completion as well!

Still a few things to be done to the outside - rails on the front stoop, garage trim painted, columns painted and we need a mailbox!
The deck view from the living room window.
So there you have it...in less than 10 days Brian and I will be the proud owners of this place. And trust me, you WILL be welcome anytime! Have a great day!

Let there be light!

Brian and I made a surprise Tuesday visit to the house...totally out of our normal schedule so we felt a little rebellious! We took a flash light because we didn't know if the lights actually worked and besides the rooms with can lights there weren't any fixtures in when we were there last. We were pleasantly surprised when we showed up and it was dark outside already but there was a faint glow coming from inside the house. LIGHTS! The contractors left a light on in the kitchen which was great so we could actually see their work and figured out that many of the other light switches work. The highlight of this rebellious visit was not the lights, however...we discovered immediately upon opening the front door that the wood floor had started to be laid. They were far from done but so far I am confident that wood floor was worth the wait. Here are a few pics, you be the judge (but maybe wait until it's all done to judge!).

Office room - right off the front door

Office room  - floor against the built in shelves

What is done of the wood floors in the kitchen
Like I mentioned - the wood floors stole the show, the light fixtures were just as exciting to see and turn on.  We are still learning and probably will be for a while what light switch operates what!

Fan in the office

fixture in basement bath

Same fixture in 1/2 bath on main floor

Fan in master

IT WORKS!

The fans that are in the other bedrooms

Jack and Jill fixtures

On Suite bathroom vanity and fixture

And lastly...our beautiful house lit up in the dark night sky...

Oh and there is grass! The bad thing about going when it was dark was that we couldn't really see it. More to come on that on Sunday!
